An economical and ecological masterpiece
To handle the increased overall energy requirements of the thermal baths, the Quellenhof Clinic and the therapy center, the outputs of the individual CHPs were increased to 400kW (previously 370kW), 220kW (previously 180kW) and 400kW (previously 370kW) respectively. The amount of biogas produced accordingly also had to increase. Together with Rosenögger & Sander, we developed targeted repowering measures to make better use of the substrate used (12,500t of corn silage, 2,500t of pig manure, 2,500t of cattle manure, 1,000t of dried chicken dung and 4,000m3 of pig slurry).

Here, three farmers, Thomas Hagen, Heinrich Schubert and Heinz-Josef Stute-Schlamme, joined forces to create a forward-looking project to ensure a good future for their region: they decided to build a highly efficient and powerful biogas plant which would offer their companies several advantages. The plant is a constant consumer of the produce from the farmers‘ own fields, but it also refines and utilizes manure and slurry from pig and chicken fattening and cattle breeding.

Towards Zero Waste
The facility in Cardiff is an excellent example of how modern waste management can work intelligently. There is less burden on landfills and the environment and climate are protected. The environmental balance and benefits for the City of Cardiff and the surrounding area are enormous. Less methane is released whilst at the same time generating biogas for the production of clean electricity. In addition, valuable fertilizer is produced for agriculture, reducing the need for the energy-intensive production of artificial fertilizer. These are two factors that significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
